Last year, the Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded to the Americans Victor Ambrose and Gary Ruvkun. They were awarded for their work in the study of micro-RNA and their findings about its function in regulating human gene function.
In the second year, the prize for medicine went to a Hungarian Katalin Kariko and American Drew Weissman for the work that enabled the rapid development of the corona vaccine.
The announcement of the prize in medicine starts the Nobel week, which continues on Tuesday with the physics prizes and on Wednesday with the chemistry prizes. The literary award is on Thursday.
The week culminates with the announcement of the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo on Friday.
The Nobel Prize in Medicine will be handed over to its recipient at the prize gala in Stockholm on December 10.
