Samsung has officially presented its first triple folding smartphone Galaxy Z TriFold, which has two hinges and a 6.5-inch screen that, when unfolded, reaches a size of 10 inches, with a slim profile design that guarantees portability and high performance.
The Korean company has detailed that its new device is designed to take the performance and premium experience of Ultra phones “to a new level”, being its first smartphone that unfolds twice to offer a large immersive screen that provides “maximum productivity” for work and “cinematic viewing.”
Thus, the new Galaxy Z TriFold takes advantage of Samsung’s experience in foldable smartphones to integrate the “most advanced” folding technologies. Specifically, it features an inward folding design to protect the main screen, which uses two improved Armor FlexHinges of different sizes with a dual-rail structure, allowing for smoother and more stable folding.
In addition, the folding mechanism is designed to facilitate the opening and closing of the device, so that the two ends fold over each other, first the left and then the right. In case it is closed incorrectly, it has an alarm that alerts the user through vibrations, as Samsung explained in a statement.
The thickness of this new foldable is 3.9 millimeters at its thinnest part, which increases to 12.9 millimeters when fully folded…
On the outside, the hinges of the Galaxy Z TriFold have a titanium casing to protect the folding mechanism and the smartphone frame is reinforced with Advanced Armor Aluminum. The rear casing, for its part, is reinforced with ceramic fiberglass.
THE LARGEST AND VERSATILE SCREEN
As for the screens, the outer one is 6.5 inches and has a Dynamic AMOLED panel, which reaches up to 2,600 nits of maximum brightness and an adaptive refresh rate of 120 Hz. For its part, the main screen increases its size to 10 inches when it is unfolded and also has a Dynamic AMOLED panel, with 1,600 nits of maximum brightness and up to 120 Hz.
Samsung has detailed that the main screen has been designed with a focus on versatility and productivity, since it works similarly to three 6.5-inch smartphones, offering more space to perform multiple tasks. This is because users can split the screen, using three applications in portrait format, side by side.
Likewise, the experience can be personalized, since applications can be resized in multiple windows, depending on the needs of the moment, for example, to review documents and compose messages at the same time. It is also versatile when it comes to managing calls or receiving notifications, since the user can respond without interrupting their workflow.
On top of all this, Samsung’s apps and features have been optimized for use on a large screen, allowing you to organize and understand information “at a glance.” It also includes the Samsung DeX tool, which allows you to “set up a complete work environment”, with up to four workspaces from which five applications can be run simultaneously.
The smartphone also allows you to add a mouse and keyboard with a Bluetooth connection to complete the work environment for more complex projects.
At the visual experience level, Samsung has also highlighted how the 10-inch screen allows you to immerse yourself in the content of movies or series, as well as promoting more complete experiences for platforms such as YouTube. All this, with “minimal folding lines”, which avoid interruptions.
PHOTOGRAPHY, PERFORMANCE AND AI
The camera of the new Galaxy Z TriFold is made up of a 200 MP wide-angle sensor with optical stabilization and f/1.7 aperture, a 12 MP ultra-wide angle lens, and a 10 MP telephoto camera. The main and exterior front cameras, for their part, in both cases have a 10 MP lens.
Likewise, all of this is powered by the power of the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor customized for Galaxy, which is accompanied by a configuration of 16 GB of RAM with 512 GB or 1 TB of internal storage.
In addition, it also has “the largest battery” that Samsung has ever incorporated into a foldable device. Specifically, it has a three-cell battery system that reaches a capacity of 5,600 mAh, and has been placed in each panel of the foldable to provide a balanced energy supply, achieving autonomy that “lasts all day.” Likewise, it has a 45W ultra-fast charging option and optimized thermal management.
The new Galaxy Z TriFold also integrates with Galaxy AI artificial intelligence (AI) functions, tailored to make them more intuitive on a large screen. With functions such as ‘Photo Assistant’, with ‘Generative Editing’ and ‘Sketch to Image’, which adapt flexibly.
Likewise, Gemini Live has also been tailored for the TriFold experience, enhanced with multimodal AI that understands what users see, say and do. Samsung has highlighted that the larger screen allows it to offer design advice, for example, when a user shows a room, a web page and paint samples.
“Galaxy Z TriFold solves one of the mobile industry’s oldest challenges: delivering the perfect balance of portability, superior performance and productivity, all in one device,” said TM Roh, CEO, president and head of Samsung Electronics’ Device eXperience (DX) division.
With all this, Samsung plans to launch the new Galaxy Z TriFold in Korea next Friday, December 12 and will reach other markets in China, Taiwan, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and the United States soon.
