AWS and Google partner to facilitate high-speed, private connections between cloud providers

Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google have joined forces to offer a joint service of multicloud connection through the preliminary version of AWS Interconnect a new tool that provides “simple, resilient, high-speed” private connections to other cloud service providers (CSPs).

As companies migrate applications to the cloud, Amazon has highlighted the need for these organizations to adopt multicloud strategies due to the interoperability requirements to be able to choose the technology that best suits your needs and the ability to create and deploy applications in any environment “more easily and quickly.”

However, this connection between different cloud environments it’s a challenge and has forced companies to adopt a self-management approach, manually configuring complex network components, which requires long deadlines and coordination with multiple teams.

In this sense, in order to facilitate interconnecting workloads between multiple cloud providers, AWS has launched in preview your AWS Interconnect service – multicloud, which is based on a new way of connecting and communicating between different cloud services and companies.

That is, as explained in a statement, this tool, which is offered as a unified specificationallows Quickly establish private, secure, high-speed network connections “with dedicated bandwidth and built-in resiliency” between Amazon’s cloud services and other cloud environments from other companies.

As the first partner, the preview version of AWS Interconnect – multicloud has been launched alongside Google Cloudwith a collaboration between both companies to transform the way providers could connect with each otheralthough Amazon has announced that it can also be used with the services of Microsoft Azure at the end of next year 2026.

In the case of AWS and Google Cloud, they have announced a co-designed multicloud networking solution that uses AWS Interconect y Cross-Cloud Interconnect from Google Cloud. As a result, multicloud will make it easier to connect AWS network services, such as AWS Transit Gateway, AWS Cloud WAN, and Amazon VPC, to other cloud service providers (CSPs), in this case Google Cloud, quickly, rather than having to wait weeks or months.

Furthermore, as Google has specified in a statement, with this collaboration, both providers carry out a Continuous monitoring to proactively detect and resolve connection issues, in order to avoid them before customers suffer an interruption in their services.

That is, this solution could avoid interruption in services as recently happened with Fortnite, ChatGPT or Perplexity, among others, which could not offer access to users after a problem in the services of their cloud provider AWS, as they could Quickly switch to using Google Cloud as a supplier.

Therefore, by interconnecting the connection to both platforms, companies will no longer have to depend on a single cloud to offer their services, but will be able to use one or another cloud depending on the situation or needs.

With all this, Amazon has detailed that Multicloud Interconnection in preview is available in five regions where AWS operates, although it has not specified which ones, and can be enabled through the AWS Management Console.

However, the API specifications developed for this product are open to the adoption of other cloud providers, so that they also simplify global connectivity between clouds.
