McLaren produces its own SUV: The first one will arrive in 2028?

According to what was leaked from the presentation, the P47 should be similar in size to or slightly larger than the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, with huge 24-inch wheels and a silhouette that attendees described as “sculpted and muscular.” The design reportedly brings new, split headlights without classic projectors, a pronounced “fin” over the roof inspired by racing cars and a large rear diffuser and spoiler, so the message is clear – this will not be just another “family SUV”, but a supercar.

Under the sheet metal, a hybrid V8 engine with more than 1,000 hp of combined power is expected, developed on the basis of the new McLaren drive that will arrive first in the W1 hypercar in 2026. Sources state that the engine will be placed as low as possible and as far as possible towards the rear, in order to maintain the typical McLaren driving feeling despite the fact that SUV body. Thus, the P47 should attack the very top of the class in which today models such as Ferrari Purosangue, Lamborghini Urus and Aston Martin DBX play roles.

The P47 is part of a wider plan in which McLaren intends to introduce a new model every year until 2028, from the W1 hypercar (successor to the P1) to the new P34 coupe to a special, limited edition 750S. In short, the SUV does not mean giving up on supercars, but a project that should finance their further development.

For now, everything is still unofficial and based on information from the presentation and industry reports, but one thing is clear – McLaren has finally given in to the trend. If the announcements come true, by the end of the decade we could be looking at a McLaren-badged SUV around town, with a hybrid V8 with four-digit horsepower and driving family shoppers faster than most of today’s supercars.
