iRobot, as the dean of this increasingly competitive product category, wants to gain muscle and brings us in the Roomba Max 705 Combo a technology that manages to surprise us in at least two key aspects: a cover for the mop roller (a type of plastic shield), a pioneer of its kind, which deploys automatically when it detects that it is on a carpet; and PerfectEdge technologywhich makes this roller extend to reach edges and corners.

And this translates in practice into one thing: effectiveness. The PowerSpin scrub roller It rotates 200 times per minute and cleans in real time with hot water new, thus removing dirt more easily and avoiding bad odors. For its part, the PerfectEdge system (which makes the roller extend) works together with the anti-tangle rubber brushes and side brushes to Capture more dirt and improve cleaning.

THE AUTOWASH BASE SIMPLIFIES MAINTENANCE TO THE MAXIMUM

Another point that we always find interesting to highlight is the AutoWash base, since it is what makes the user experience change completely and makes it feel like these devices are practically autonomous, with minimal maintenance. Specifically, the base Empties dirt from the robot, dispenses cleaning solutions, and automatically cleans and dries the rolleroffering up to 75 days of use, with the only task – for the user – of emptying the dirty water bucket and filling the clean water bucket periodically. The only drawback is that the size is consistent and it is a little more voluminous than one would expect, although the design is very careful and will go quite unnoticed in any corner of the house.

In terms of technology, this device has the most advanced system with Dirt Detect, capable of identify large accumulations of wet and dry dirt in advance, repeating cleaning passes for a deeper clean without leaving anything behind. In addition, thanks to artificial intelligence, with the PrecisionView tool and its ClearView Pro LiDAR navigation system (which generates ultra-detailed 3D maps), Instantly recognizes and avoids objects of all sizes. Cables have always been a problem with this type of robots in our tests, causing pulling or snagging, and with the Roomba Max 705 we have not had any incidents of this type.

The robot also collects information continuously and adapt cleaning recommendations to the needs of the home. In this way, through the Roomba Home ‘app’, it suggests where to clean next, prioritizes the dirtiest rooms and selects the ideal settings for effective cleaning.

In any case, beyond these recommendations, users can select through their smartphone. Specific cleaning zones, four suction levels, three liquid levels or repeat passes in the delimited spaces with greater traffic. To make the process even easier, we can use voice commands to carry out these aforementioned tasks.

Finally, it is worth talking about the design. We have already advanced before that the base (at least in the case of the black model that we have been able to see in person), integrates perfectly with almost any decoration, while the robot stands out with a more elegant touch, mixing materials -with flat and rough surfaces-, as well as with black and some detail in a very subtle bronze (where the physical on/off and ‘Home’ buttons are located).

In short, we are faced with a ‘top of the range’ with all the letters, from the most recognized brand in the sectorwhich makes no concessions in terms of technology or design, and which arrives with a discount that positions it as one of the best quality-price options on the market.
