AWS re:Invent 2025 | “You can create your game using generative AI, test it and take it home in a small poker chip”: the video games of the future and why consoles are not in danger

In fact, during the exhibitors’ fair at the AWS re:Invent 2025 from Las Vegas I had the opportunity to generate a video game in a matter of minutes, thanks to templates generated by AI. Although there was a guide, the process was completely simple and intuitive. After the incredible experience, I took the opportunity to talk with Stephanie Lone to know more details.

“We’re seeing a trend that a lot of our gaming clients are trying to move more towards using AI in games and that’s also very data intensive. We have a whole area which is our Agentic AI arcade (autonomous AI system that can act independently to achieve predetermined goals), where you can get a little token, you go in and you go through four stations there, where you can actually plan your game. All of this uses generative AI. You can design your game using generative AI. You can build your game and then you can test it,” he says the global leader of the Solutions Architecture (SA) team for the Media and Entertainment business unit at AWS.

He adds: “On the back of a little poker chip that you’re going to get, you have a QR code. You can take it home or anywhere else and play it wherever you are. So a lot of our customers are now in that migration of not only using our GameLift servers and streams to host and stream their games, but now they’re using AI to build and deploy their games faster and faster as well.”

Analysis of players and future of consoles

For gaming customers AWS It is important to know what the players are doing, what their behaviors and interactions are. That information allows them to discover and find better gameplay with their consumers.

“Our customers are using data to help augment how games are built. They’re also looking when you think about player matchmaking. You need the data to figure out who they don’t want certain matchups with. For example, video game newbies, like some parents, don’t want to play against their kids, who are higher level and always win when they go head to head. They don’t even take three steps past the start of Fortnite. They never get out of dying every 30 seconds. But anyway, those are some use cases, like pairing of players. That’s what it’s about, discovering those behaviors,” says Lone.

Customers are also trying to figure out better experiences, especially along the lines of monetization, how to do better in games and in the advertising space. “In addition to behaviors and interactions, we add how to use that performance data or how to market and analyze that data to help create more monetization experiences,” complements the Amazon Web Services specialist.

Regarding the possibility that online games, which are hosted in the cloud, can replace physical consoles, the professional with more than 25 years in the media and entertainment industry does not believe that will happen.

“We still see that consoles are very popular. We have huge customers like Sony that run on AWS (in the cloud). In fact, they were part of Matt Garman’s (CEO of Amazon Web Services) keynote when they talked about how they have migrated and been customers for years, but their entire PlayStation network runs on AWS. So I think it’s complementary, not a replacement,” he concludes.
