Snoopy moves to Sony, deal worth 450 million

Following the transaction, the holding company that holds the rights to the characters will become a consolidated subsidiary of the Sony Group. Operational leadership will be entrusted mainly to the Japanese music division, which has already collaborated in the management of the brand since 2018. The goal declared by company leaders, including Sony Music Japan CEO Shunsuke Muramatsu, is to leverage the conglomerate’s vast global network to further amplify the commercial value of the franchise, embracing new business opportunities while maintaining respect for the original work.

For WildBrain, the sale represents a strategic financial maneuver aimed at eliminating debt and recovering economic flexibility to invest in other proprietary intellectual properties, such as Teletubbies. Despite the share disengagement, the Canadian company is not completely leaving the scene: the agreement provides that it will continue to operate as an exclusive production partner for new animated content, including that intended for the Apple TV platform, as well as managing the official Snoopy YouTube channel and commercial licenses in specific international territories.
