iPhone Fold reveals a design similar to BlackBerry

Technology page Apple Insider shares CAD drawings of iPhone Fold – a folding screen phone expected to be released by Apple late next year. The source said the drawings were provided to accessory manufacturers. In particular, the device consists of two halves, each half has dimensions of 120.6 x 83.8 x 9.6 mm. When in the folded state, a part of the hinge will create a space 1.8 mm thick on the side of the device.

In the open state, the iPhone Fold is almost the same size as the iPad Mini, while the folded device has a shape similar to the BlackBerry Passport line.

The external display is 5.49 inches and has a resolution of 1,422 x 2,088, with an unusual aspect ratio of 9:13. 7.76-inch internal screen, 2713×1920 resolution, close to the screen ratio of some iPad Pro models.

If confirmed, iPhone Fold will be different from other folding smartphones currently on the market. Even folding devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Pixel 10 Pro Fold are shaped like regular smartphones and the screen is almost square in the open state.

Apple devoted a lot of effort to developing a hinge system to solve the folding problem, which is a disadvantage of folding phones. Although the ability to completely remove the fold is very difficult, sources confirm that Apple’s hinge will reach the highest level of perfection on the market.

Based on core component costs, the iPhone Fold is expected to cost 2,400 USD (58.5 million VND), as expensive as the 16-inch MacBook Pro and much higher than competitors such as Samsung Galaxy Z Fold (1,700 USD), Google Pixel Fold (1,800 USD).
