Taylor Swift in artificial intelligence version climbs the charts in Brazil

The Brazilian record market is facing a digital paradox in which, despite itself, Taylor Swift is the protagonist. The latest single “The Fate of Ophelia” has reached the top of the listening charts also through various variations uploaded to the Spotify platform. An alternative version of the track, the result of sophisticated manipulation using artificial intelligence, quickly climbed the ranks to reach forty-seventh place in the national Top 50, accumulating over 430,000 plays in a single day.

The spread of the phenomenon has branched out into multiple adaptations that have simultaneously occupied different slots in the Top 200. These include “Todo Tempo Sozinha Nessa Torre”, generated by AI, and the Portuguese translation “A Sina de Ofélia”, a sign of a distribution strategy that aims to intercept the local public by exploiting the name of the American pop star. The presence of these traces highlights a gray area in the control systems of streaming platforms, incapable of promptly filtering content that does not possess the necessary legal and artistic authorizations.

The episode represents a significant precedent in the management of copyright in the era of speech synthesizers. Despite the absence of direct involvement of the singer or her record label, the algorithm rewarded the engagement generated by users, effectively equating a synthetic product to an official publication. This dynamic confirms the music industry’s growing concerns about the saturation of digital catalogs with software-generated works capable of competing with real productions and influencing consumption data on a large scale.
