The Philips Hue lamp will help you get up better in the morning

The Philips Hue Twilight is a table lamp designed for the atmosphere in the bedroom. This is a lamp that is very different from other lamps, because it is a smart bulb that integrates with the lighting ecosystem and other Philips products in the smart home, under the Hue brand.

Hue’s products naturally include light bulbs, but also security cameras and sensors for the company’s doors, so you can get a significant part of the smart home experience from Philips. In terms of lighting, you can create different atmospheres of the colors you are interested in or choose those that Philips offers in its application that are suitable for sleeping, romantic, reading, concentration and inspired by different areas, such as a sunset at the beach and rain in the city.

While Hue products usually require a connection to the home network using the Philips bridge – Bridge Pro (for the full review), this model can also work only with a Bluetooth link, but then you don’t enjoy all the features of the product, such as remote control. The communication with the Twilight is not only done by WiFi/Bluetooth, but also by the Zigbee protocol that communicates with the rest of the bulbs in the house directly with each other and then makes it possible to receive the communication, even in areas where there is no WiFi reception, for example, in MMD.

Hue Twilight – adjustable table lamp

The Twilight comes in the look of a clean white table lamp with a rounded head that can be adjusted to the right or left, so that it can be directed for reading a book or other activity, without moving the entire lamp body. The head itself also includes two physical buttons, which allow operation of the lamp directly from it, instead of through an app or voice assistants that you may be using, such as: Amazon’s Alexa, Google Assistant and also through the Sonos speakers and their assistant. You can also connect the lamp to Apple Home and control it through it.

The Hue app offers very efficient control of the product, along with the company’s other smart bulbs that you may have at home. The app also enables the Twilight settings. For example, you can set the Twilight to be part of a family of other lights in a bedroom or treat it as a separate device.

The two physical buttons on the top of the Twilight enable quick operation. The button with the Hue logo is intended for quick activation of sleep mode – Go to Sleep with a single click. On the other hand, a long press canceled this mode (expansion on the sleep mode below). The dot button – Dot went through a number of different lighting scenes with a single click and a long press closed them.

Go to bed and wake up in the morning with more pleasant lighting

My favorite option in Twilight was the sleep script I used in the evenings, which is a slow sunset lighting that lasts from 10 minutes to 60 minutes, so you can press the button and fall asleep with your own private sunset.

In the morning I set the lamp to a sunrise script using automatic mode that works as an alarm clock. I set the time I wanted to get up and it started a slow sunrise about 30 minutes before my destination, so the full light arrived by the time I needed to get up. Which creates a more pleasant process in the morning to get up with.

These two modes come to support the user’s “biological clock”, which is known as a circadian rhythm – a 24-hour internal cycle that regulates the processes in the body. The Twilight basically mimics the sun’s natural light cycle throughout the day, such as light suitable for waking the body in the morning and orange light in the evening to help the body secrete melatonin and prepare for sleep.

One of the scenarios that can be set in the lamp is lighting that changes automatically for 24 hours. From white lighting designed to energize and then concentrate in the morning through bright yellow lighting suitable for reading in the afternoon and in the evening lighting more suitable for rest in yellow and orange colors to very weak lighting in an orange shade at night itself.

Hue Twilight – front and rear lighting

The Philips lamp includes LED lighting on the top and back, which allows it to create lighting in a variety of changing colors at the same time with a pleasant effect on the wall behind the lamp as well as in front. In addition, it can reach a very weak dimming, which allows it to be used as a gentle night lamp that does not disturb sleep.

In the bottom line, the Hue Twilight is much more than just a designed night lamp, it is a smart lamp whose main technology is to provide you with suitable light that wakes you up in the morning and helps you fall asleep at night, while at the same time it knows how to adapt itself to the preferred lighting during the day, whether it is for concentration or reading. Its advantage is that it connects to the Hue ecosystem and knows how to work alongside other smart lighting in the home, including control through other voice assistants.
