LEGO bricks now have interactive chips that play lights and sounds

The creations of LEGO come to life with the platform LEGO Smart Play and new building elements that react in real time when interacting with each other, introducing a new way to play without screens.

LEGO has come to CES 2026 to present what it considers to be “one of the most significant evolutions” in its gaming system since 1978, when it introduced the minifigure. Now, innovation comes from the hand of chips and sensors with a new type of construction element, as indicated in a press release.

MIRA: Goodbye to the smartphone? The promise of the AI device that will replace it and do everything for us

The new bricks, smart tags and minifigures that make up the LEGO Smart Play platform are designed to offer a real-time interactive experiencealways between physical elements.

The brick has an integrated chip and different sensors (accelerometer, light and sound) and a miniature speaker so that during the game, the tags and minifigures react with the constructions interactively, with sounds and behaviors.

With this new line, LEGO is betting on play without screens, and has already announced that it will debut with new Star Wars sets, in which it will be possible to create ships that reproduce sounds of laser shots, resupply or the roar of engines, and recreate scenes with the minifigures in which the sound of lightsabers collide hums or the imperial march sounds.
