Spotify adds real-time playback activity to messages directly from the app

Spotify has announced the new updates coming to the messages section of the application: real-time playback activity and the request to join a ‘Jam’ from the chat itself.

The platform has chosen strengthen the messages section in which almost 40 million users have submitted nearly 340 million songs since its launch last year.

Mobile users will finally be able to see the playback activity of your friends in real time, an option that has been available for years in the computer version. Furthermore, they will be able request to join the ‘Jam’ the Spotify function to listen to music at the same time, as stated in its blog.

Both new features are now available with the messaging function enabled on iOS and Android devices. Play activity is available to all users with access to messages, and free users can join a ‘Jam’ hosted by a Premium user.

Since both functions are part of messages, they are available to users over 16 years old, as the streaming company has recalled.

REPRODUCTION ACTIVITY

The long-awaited update allows you to share the music the user is listening to in real time with the people you want. If nothing is being played, the last song played will appear. The only requirement is that users have contacted via message within the application.

To configure it you have to go to the privacy and social settings and activate the ‘Playback activity’ option. Just below, the application allows you to make a selection of those users with whom you want to share the activity.

Once the feature is enabled, the activity appears in the chat row in the sidebar and at the top of Messages chats.

If a user taps on their friend or family member’s listening activity, they’ll be able to add tracks to their library, start playback, open the song menu, or react with an emoji.

REQUEST TO JOIN THE ‘JAM’

To complement the streaming activity, Spotify has added the option to request to join a person’s ‘Jam’ within the conversation itself.

To access this function, the user has to enter the conversation, where, in the upper right corner, a symbol appears with two people connected. Next, a window opens to confirm the request and you will have to wait for the other person to accept or reject it.

If accepted, the recipient becomes the host of the session and both participants can add tracks to a shared queue and listen to them together in real time.
