Mexico recovers telephone booths in the face of the digital and generational divide

Mexico has recovered the classics telephone booths in a project promoted by the public company CFE Telecommunications to face the digital and generational divide in rural areas of the country.

While in Spain the use of booths is something that has gone down in history with the arrival of the mobile phone and the dismantling of most facilities starting in 2022, there are still countries that are committed to this type of communication.

This is the case of Mexico, where the electricity company CFE has installed about 850 telephone booths since the project was announced almost two years ago.

Con free callsthe American country is trying to combat the digital divide in rural areas, where residents are not guaranteed access to a mobile device.

“With the telephone booth project, an alternative is added to guarantee the connection of the population who, due to the generational or digital divide, may see communication with their loved ones affected,” CFE explained in statements reported by Expansión.
