OpenAI Launched ChatGPT Health

On January 7, 2026, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Health, i.e. ‘Health’ as a special space within ChatGPT for health and wellness issues. The idea is that ChatGPT can respond ‘smarter’ because, if you want, you give it context from your own data, such as findings or data from health apps.

What exactly do you get? In the ‘Health’ area, you can upload medical documents and connect sources like Medical Records and Apple Health, and OpenAI also lists integrations with wellness apps like Function and MyFitnessPal. Examples of uses that push are explaining findings, preparing questions for the doctor, monitoring eating and training habits, and helping; when finding your way around health insurance options.

The most sensitive part is privacy, so OpenAI emphasized data separation here: ‘Health’ conversations, files and memory are kept separate from the rest of ChatGPT and, according to them, are not used to train the underlying models. In the Help Center it is additionally written that Health is supported on the web and iOS, while Android will get its version ‘soon’.

Regarding availability, OpenAI states that Health is being rolled out gradually and that users on the Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans are eligible in supported countries, but with the exception of the EEA, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. This means that Croatia, as part of the EEA, does not initially enter the rollout.

And one more important thing that is important to emphasize, which is how OpenAI explicitly says that Health is designed to help with coping and preparation, not to replace the doctor or to be a tool for diagnosis and treatment. Such a statement on their part is completely logical, because they probably could have expected that the public in general would be skeptical about this move, so it makes sense that they distanced themselves at the start. In any case, the Health Chat GPT makes sense to use as a ‘second opinion’ to explain concepts, summarize findings and list questions for review, but not as a final health decision.
