IKEA made a smart version of the legendary Varmblixt lamp

The biggest change is to the ‘doughnut’. Before there was a single, warm ambient tone, and the new version gets RGB light and can cycle through 12 pre-selected colors. These colors were curated by Marcelis, and the emphasis is on smooth, natural transitions instead of aggressive ‘party’ light. Control is via the included BILRES remote, and if you connect the lamp to the IKEA smart system, you can get even more options through the app.

Viseća Varmblixt lamp does not go to RGB, but plays with the temperature of white. You can warm it from a colder ‘day’ tone to a warmer, ‘candle’ atmosphere, and that too via the BILRES remote. In this combination, IKEA aims at the team that wants designer lighting that adapts to the space, without immediately going into expensive Hue or similar systems.

IKEA says the new Matter-compatible Varmblixt lamps will go on sale in April 2026, with prices starting at $99.99 for the ‘doughnut’ and $149.99 for the hanging lamp, at least in markets reported by US media. There is still no clear local price for Croatia in these announcements, but it is logical to expect that the smart version will be more expensive than the existing ‘classic’ Varmblixt donut, which is sold in our country. sold as a regular LED table or wall lamp.
