BMW M GmbH announced that it ended 2025 with 213,457 vehicles sold, about 3% more than the year before, its 14th consecutive record. In translation, the ‘M’ division is growing even when the rest of the market is often unpredictable, and BMW claims that the growth was driven by both the ‘full’ M models and the M Performance models. They especially emphasize that almost every tenth BMW sold in 2025 was a BMW M, which is a new maximum for their share.
As for the ‘real’ M models, BMW says the new M5 Sedan and M5 Touring were the big drivers of growth in their first full year on the market. BMW’s text also mentions that both use the M HYBRID system with a maximum of 535 kW (727 hp) and 1,000 Nm, so they go for a combination of brutal power and electrification, instead of the same ‘old school’ recipe.
It is interesting that the best seller of the entire BMW M range in 2025 was not a sports coupe, but an SUV. The best-selling BMW M model of the year was the BMW X3 M50, which took the throne from the electric i4 top model, and BMW states that the X3 M50 combines a 48 V mild hybrid and 293 kW (398 hp) of total system power. The i4 is still important because it was the best-selling BMW M model from 2022 to 2024, and it remained “in high demand” in 2025.
If we only look at ‘high-performance’ M cars, BMW says that the BMW M2 Coupé was the best-selling such model in 2025 and they are additionally pushing it as a car that still offers a manual transmission. In the same press release, they also mention that they sold almost 71,500 ‘high-performance’ vehicles in 2025, with a strong result of the M3 family, including Touring versions and the new M3 CS Touring variant.
BMW says that the USA is the largest single market with more than 72,000 M vehicles sold, and they also mention top positions in markets such as Germany and the UK, with the largest absolute growth in China. In the press release, Switzerland is highlighted as an extreme: there “almost every fourth” BMW ordered is actually a BMW M.
For a bit of local context, BMW was among the strongest brands in Croatia in 2025 in terms of new car registrations. According to the data we have alreadyć transmitted, BMW had 2,380 registrations in Croatia in 2025, which shows that there is a customer base in Croatia as well, č even if the M segment is a realistically small, premium niche.
