Global spending on leisure travel will triple and reach 15 trillion dollars in 2040driven primarily by domestic travel and emerging market growth, according to a new report from Boston Consulting Group (BCG).

According to the study, domestic travel will concentrate most of this growth, with a projected value close to 12 billion dollars while regional travel will exceed 2 billion. Although international travel will grow at a faster rate, it will remain the smallest segment, with 1.4 trillion dollars.

The tourism boom will be led by travelers from China, India, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam which show greater dynamism than traditional markets such as the United States, the United Kingdom or Germany. The report is based on a survey of almost 5,000 travelers in 68 countries.
