Apple accuses the EU of carrying out “delaying practices” after the closure of the alternative Setapp Mobile store

Apple has rejected any type of responsibility in relation to the closing Setapp Mobile the alternative store to its App Store, and has accused Brussels of carrying out “delaying practices” to delay the implementation of changes for its regulation.

Apple’s response comes days after the announcement by the software company MacPaw to close Setapp Mobile, which will be effective on February 16 after having been launched in 2024, when the inclusion of alternative application stores to the App Store was allowed within the framework of the Digital Markets Act (DMA) of the European Union.

MacPaw said in a statement that the app’s closure is because the terms of trade for app stores are “still evolving and complex.” As a result, the situation “does not fit Setapp’s current business model.”

The European Commission is investigating the closure of Setapp Mobile and points to Apple as responsible, according to Bloomberg. The European body suspects that Apple is not complying with regulations and does not allow a real alternative to its App Store.

Given this investigation, the apple company has accused Brussels of carrying out “dilatory practices” to delay the implementation of measures and changes to adjust to this regulation in order to investigate and fine them.

“In October we presented a compliance plan and they have yet to respond. The European Commission is carrying out delaying practices to mislead the public, change the rules of the game and unfairly attack an American company with onerous investigations and heavy fines,” Apple denounced in a statement.

In this way, the company distances itself from any responsibility derived from the closure of the alternative to its official store. However, after the dismissal of Setapp Mobile, there are still other alternatives, such as the Epic Gamesresponsible for titles like Fortnite.
