Ubisoft in crisis: Projects are shutting down, offices are closing, and the new edition of the Prince of Persia game has dropped

At the same time, Ubisoft is giving additional time for seven games in order, as they say, to raise the quality and long-term value, and they also mention that one unannounced title that was planned for fiscal year 2026 has been postponed to fiscal year 2027. In other words, in the coming months, we should expect date changes and silence regarding some projects, because each plan he practically rearranges it again and again.

The cuts go through both people and locations. Ubisoft cites the closure of its Halifax mobile studio (earlier this month) and Stockholm studio, with additional restructuring at Abu Dhabi, RedLynx and Massive. In parallel, they are pushing a new round of savings: they want to conclude the existing program of at least 100 million euros in fixed savings by March 2026, and then aim for an additional 200 million euros in the next two years.

What’s interesting is the direction they’re going: Ubisoft is introducing five ‘Creative Houses’ across genres and brands, with a clear focus on ‘Open World Adventures’ and ‘GaaS-native’ experiences. In practice, this means more games like ‘Assassin’s Creed’, ‘Far Cry’ and ‘Rainbow Six’, and less risk on smaller or completely new projects. In the same package, they also mention accelerated investments in ‘player-facing’ generative AI technology. In translation, Ubisoft is in crisis and they hope that one of the new titles will be more. of established franchises to explode and pull them out of the crisis, and they have no room for experiments with smaller games.

Why are they doing all this right now? In short, Ubisoft admits that the AAA market has become more expensive and selective, and the competition in the shooter segment is increasingly brutal. The Guardian and The Verge write that the announcement caused a strong shock on the stock market, with a large drop in the value of the company, which further gives the impression that it is a move ‘by force’, not a peaceful reorganization out of comfort.

For gamers, the most concrete consequence is clear: the remake of ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ is over, and some of the other titles are moving further into the future. For Ubisoft, it is a bet that they will get away with making fewer games, but bigger and more ‘safer’, while the risk is that their very closure to new ideas will narrow the audience even more in the long run.
