Elon Musk wants to commercialize Optimus robots towards the end of 2027

Tesla will market its Optimus humanoid robots by the end of 2027, its billionaire boss Elon Musk promised Thursday in Davos.

“By the end of next year, I think we will be selling humanoid robots to the public,” he said in a speech at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum, which is being held this week in the Swiss Alps resort.

It is the first time that the richest man in the world participates in the Davos forum, which in the past he described as “boring” and where his appearance, announced by surprise on Thursday morning, almost filled the auditorium.

The billionaire made a sober intervention in Davos, talking about space, solar panels and artificial intelligence, but not about politics.

Getting to supply one million Optimus humanoid robots is one of the conditions that Elon Musk must meet if he wants to benefit from the enormous ten-year remuneration plan validated in November by Tesla shareholders.

Tesla already shows the objective of installing production lines this year with a view to commercializing Optimus.

But Elon Musk warned earlier this week, in a message on his social network

Elon Musk has acknowledged in the past that he tends not to respect the timelines he gives, confessing in October 2024 that “I tend to be a little optimistic about deadlines.”

“In general, I think that for the quality of life it is better to err on the side of optimism and be wrong, rather than on the side of pessimism and be right,” he said at the end of his speech.
