On February 13, OpenAI will remove from ChatGPT the models GPT-4o, GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini y OpenAI o4 after having recovered them at the request of several paying subscribers.
Behind him launch in August of the GPT-5 version, with which replaced GPT-4o, OpenAI brought it back a week later after user complaints about subscriptions More y Proa measure that has finally been revoked.
These subscribers commented that they needed more time to transition from one model to the next and that they preferred the “more conventional and warmer” style of the GPT-4o.
As a solution, OpenAI launched GPT-5.1 in November and a month later GPT-5.2which included improvements to the chatbot’s personality, more support for creativity and greater personalization in responses. Thus, users can choose between styles such as friendly, and control the warmth and enthusiasm of the assistant.
“Our goal is to give users greater control and customization over how it feels to use ChatGPT, not just its functions,” the company explained in a statement on its website.
As a result of the updates to the GPT-5 model, OpenAI has made the decision to definitively withdraw the GPT-4o, GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini and OpenAI o4 models, claiming that they have already implemented the improvements that users requested and that only 0.1 percent use GPT-4o daily.
“We know that losing access to GPT-4o will be frustrating for some users, and we do not make this decision lightly. Retiring models is never easy, but it allows us focus on improving the models that most people use every day“, OpenAI has explained.
