The video game industry turns its back on AI, rejected by 52% of developers

Despite the enthusiasm expressed by the leaders of giants such as EA and Krafton, the actual use of AI remains limited to support tasks. Only 36% of professionals declare that they use generative tools, limiting their use mainly to research, brainstorming and administrative tasks such as email management. More technical applications, such as asset creation or debugging, involve a minority of users, while just 5% of respondents integrate AI into features aimed directly at the player.

The climate of uncertainty is also fueled by the persistent wave of layoffs that has hit studios in the last two years. The report indicates that 17% of professionals have lost their jobs in the last twelve months, a percentage that rises to 28% if we consider the last two years. This instability reflects heavily on the prospects of the new generations: 60% of students and educators fear that the current state of the market will make access to a career extremely complex for new graduates. These themes, central to the future of digital production, will be the protagonists of the debates at the next GDC in San Francisco scheduled for March 9th.
