Microsoft considers reducing the presence of Copilot and AI in Windows 11

Microsoft is rethinking his strategy for implementing artificial intelligence (AI) from Copilot in Windows 11 after criticism from users and the numerous bugs that the operating system presents.

Windows 11 has one billion users globally, who are facing various system failures caused by the January security update.

In October Microsoft announced integration Copilot en Windows 11to allow users to interact directly with the assistant even in applications such as Paint or Notepad, even if this was to the detriment of system performance.

The measure has generated some rejection among userswhich adds to bugs after the January updatewhich has caused a reaction in the company that, according to sources familiar with these plans with Windows Central, is rethinking its AI strategy in Windows.

As they explain, the technology giant reconsiders turning back in the integration of AI in certain applications or eliminate the Copilot brand and opt for another, more optimized experience.

According to the portal specialized in Windows, Microsoft has Temporarily paused development of additional Copilot buttons for apps built into Windows 11 as part of a strategy to be “more selective.”

THE FAILURE OF RECALL

Beyond Copilot, Microsoft is also reviewing Memories (Recall), the AI ​​tool for Windows that, based on screenshots, creates a kind of ‘photographic memory’, which is collected in a timeline so that users can return to the previously searched content, both in ‘apps’, as well as in documents or websites.

According to sources, Microsoft believes that the current implementation of Memories “has failed” and is therefore seeking the way to make it evolveeven if that means finding another name for it. On the contrary, other AI initiatives such as Semantic Search, Agentic Workspace, Windows ML and Windows AI API continue.
