The Nintendo Switch is Nintendo’s best-selling console in history

In its latest financial results, Nintendo announced that the Switch sold 155.37 million units by December 31, 2025, surpassing the Nintendo DS, which held the top spot for years with 154.02 million.

It is a great symbolic milestone because the Switch is not just an ordinary console, but a hybrid that has practically changed the direction of Nintendo since 2017. The record came even after the device entered its ninth year of life, with the fact that it is still sold in several variants, including the OLED model.

It is also important that everything happens in parallel with the Switch 2 wave. Nintendo is moreć has previously shown how quickly new hardware drives revenue, but the original Switch obviously still has a place, especially among those entering the ecosystem due to its huge library of games and lower price compared to the new model.

In the same context, many immediately drew a comparison with the industry’s absolute record, Sony’s PS2, which has been hovering around the 160 million mark for a long time. The Switch is now relatively close to that number, but the pace of sales at this stage of the console’s life and Nintendo’s focus on the Switch 2 suggest that the “hunt for the PS2” will be more difficult than it looked a year ago.
