Nvidia CEO speaks out about rumors of disagreement with OpenAI

“We will invest huge amounts of money in OpenAI. I trust OpenAI, what they do is amazing. It is one of the most influential companies of this era and I really like working with Sam Altman,” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said on January 31.

He also denied the information that he was “unsatisfied with OpenAI”, saying this was unreasonable. “Sam is preparing to complete an investment round and we will certainly participate with a very large amount of money, possibly the largest investment in Nvidia’s history,” he said.

When asked if the amount would exceed $100 billion, he replied that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman would be the one to announce the specific amount.

Nvidia in September 2025 announced plans to invest up to 100 billion USD in OpenAI. If implemented, the deal will bring a large budget to OpenAI, as well as allow the company to access advanced semiconductor chips to maintain its dominant position in the field of AI.

However, Wall Street Journal On January 30, citing anonymous sources, Nvidia’s plan was stalled, after some corporate leaders expressed skepticism.

A source said Mr. Huang has insisted in recent months that the $100 billion deal is non-binding and incomplete. He also appeared to criticize OpenAI’s “lack of discipline in its approach to business,” and expressed concern with competition from Google and Anthropic.

Reuters midweek said that Amazon is also negotiating to invest in OpenAI, for a maximum of 50 billion USD.

OpenAI aims to raise capital of 100 billion USD and value the company at 830 billion USD.
