Horizon Hunters Gathering announced for PS5 and PC

Sony further expands the boundaries of the post-apocalyptic universe born from the minds of the creators of Aloy with the announcement of Horizon Hunters Gathering. The title presents itself as a cooperative action experience designed for up to three participants, expected on both PlayStation 5 and PC. The core of the experience lies in the collaboration between hunters to protect the territory from the threat of the machines, through a combat system that takes up the tactical precision of the main chapters of the series, integrating it with reactive team dynamics based on individual skill.

The game structure allows you to select the protagonists from a roster of hunters characterized by distinct fighting styles, each with their own narrative campaign and personal motivations. Progression relies on deep customization that includes specific roles and roguelike-style upgrades, designed to vary the approach to each session. The philosophy behind the project focuses on highly replayable missions, as demonstrated by the first two modes presented: Machine Incursion, focused on defending against waves of enemies led by a boss, and Cauldron Descent, a staged challenge in mutable environments that rewards teams capable of discovering secret passages and precious resources.

Despite Sony’s recent strategic review regarding live service titles, Hunters Gathering fits into a roadmap that also includes the MMO project Horizon Steel Frontiers and the upcoming Marathon. For users who prefer the traditional experience, the developers have confirmed the presence of a single-player mode supported by companions managed by artificial intelligence. Guerrilla Games also reiterated that the production of solo narrative adventures remains a fundamental pillar of the studio’s identity, reassuring the community of the desire not to abandon the format that has made the brand successful.

Although a definitive release date has not yet been communicated, the testing phase will begin at the end of February with a small-scale playtest, accessible via the PlayStation Beta Program. The game will natively support crossplay and shared progression between console and computer. This new iteration of the franchise represents an attempt to diversify Horizon’s gaming offering, keeping intact the aesthetic and mechanical elements that have characterized the saga since its debut.
