Microsoft strengthens security in Windows with warnings about apps that try to access sensitive resources

Microsoft has presented the ‘Base security mode’ and ‘Transparency and user consent’ tools, which are part of the Safe Future Initiative, to strengthen security in Windows with new integrity protections and controls over the permissions that are granted.

The technology company has advanced Windows security by strengthening trust and security through transparency and user consent.

This security reinforcement is achieved with two new tools: ‘Base Security Mode’ y ‘Transparency and user consent’ which join the controls already available through features such as Smart App Control and administrator protection.

‘Base Security Mode’ will make sure that Windows can only run applications, services, and drivers that are signedin order to “protect the system against unauthorized manipulation or changes.”

‘Transparency and user consent’, for its part, will bring protection already known in mobile phones to Windows computers: notices from applications trying to access sensitive resourcessuch as files, camera or microphone, or that try to install unwanted ‘software’.

Both tools will be available to Windows users and IT administrators, who can activate, deactivate or review protections at any time.

Both ‘Base Security Mode’ and ‘Transparency and User Consent’ are part of the Safe Future Initiative, with which Microsoft puts into practice what it has learned from security incidents to ensure that safety is paramount in all its products.
