Scientific agreement between Italy and Japan

The agreement, signed by presidents Fabio Florindo and Kaoru Takara, directly involves the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAECI) and the Japanese Ministry of Science (MEXT)outlining a strategic axis between two of the most technologically advanced nations in the study of endogenous phenomena.

Data infrastructures and joint research

The core of the agreement lies in systematic exchange of information and in the development of research activities in the sectors of seismology, volcanology and environmental studies. The cooperation involves the integration of data flows from the respective monitoring networks, allowing the creation of more precise predictive models thanks to the sharing of interdisciplinary skills.

The “Tech” component of the agreement manifests itself through the implementation of high-tech laboratory experiments and advanced training programs. The goal is to develop algorithms and early warning systems that contribute to the resilience of civil infrastructures and sustainable development of the territory.

Objective: mitigation of natural disasters

The synergistic approach between Italy and Japan aims to transform scientific evidence into operational tools. “This partnership consolidates a synergistic approach in the important exchange and sharing activities in the field of geosciences, strengthening a significant scientific collaboration between Italy and Japan“, declared the President of INGV, Fabio Florindo.

Scientific research is understood here as a security infrastructure for communities. Through the dissemination of new theories and technologies, the MoC aims to reduce the impact of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, enhancing technical data as a tool for social protection. The joint commitment of INGV and NIED confirms that the prevention of natural risks in 2026 inevitably involvesinteroperability of computing systems and global cooperation between centers of excellence.
