Google: Vietnamese people prepare for Tet 2026 three months in advance

The 2026 Tet search trend has just been announced by Google, evaluating Vietnamese people this year as “proactively planning early, taking advantage of AI to celebrate Tet more effectively”.

Based on query data, planning and preparation for Tet appears from around November-December 2025. In the early stages, search behavior mainly focuses on identifying important milestones and building an overall plan, shown through keywords such as “what year is Tet 2026”, “what day is the first day of Tet 2026” and “Tet holiday schedule 2026”. In the past, the level of interest and searches related to Tet usually only increased sharply in the 1-2 months before the holiday.

“Our data shows that Vietnamese people are preparing for Tet more proactively and with more planning,” said Mr. Marc Woo, General Director of Google Vietnam.

In addition, the data also shows that closer to Tet, Vietnamese people gradually move from the orientation stage to specific planning and implementation. In particular, the need for preparation is expressed through queries related to timelines and travel such as “how many days until Tet” and “air tickets for Tet 2026”. This shows that users proactively arrange their schedules and travel plans earlier than in previous years.

When Tet is about two months away, queries about consumption and lifestyle dominate, equivalent to 28% of related searches. Vietnamese people are also noted to be starting to focus more on preparing the Tet space and choosing gifts, shown by the increase in the keywords “Tet decoration” and “Tet music”, and at the same time paying attention to financial factors through the statement “Lunar New Year bonus 2026”.

Besides needs related to arrangement and preparation, Vietnamese people are also using Google tools to answer cultural and emotional concerns during Tet.

A trend recorded in the last 5 years is that the young generation uses Google Search to ask about “things to avoid during Tet”, “prayer on the first day of Tet” and “five-fruit tray on Tet”.

The change in search behavior recognized by Google is that users are shifting from informational queries to searches associated with specific actions. The platform also evaluates that Vietnamese people are starting to take advantage of AI mode in Google Search to handle complex needs, requiring a lot of relevant data and context.

According to Google, users can use AI tools to ask specific questions with clear requests for information, context and relevant factors. For example, they can ask “Suggest me an itinerary to explore Da Lat in the next 4 days of Tet with an economical cost for a group of 4 people. Give me a list of things to prepare and note before going” and receive results from AI on the search page.

Along with Search, users also use Gemini to suggest personalized New Year wishes, manage budgets and arrange spring travel plans and schedules for their families. However, the company did not mention detailed figures.
