35% of Spaniards do not take any action regarding cybersecurity alerts

One in three Spaniards specifically 35 percent, affirm that does not take any action in the face of warnings related to cybersecurity, according to a TransUnion study.

In its quarterly report “Consumer Pulse”, the company has analyzed the attitudes and behaviors of Spanish consumers in various areas. Regarding cybersecurity, TransUnion has warned about the number of Spaniards who ignore alarms about threats, which rises to 49 percent in citizens over 61 years of age.

Among the main causes of inaction in the face of these warnings are the information saturationas stated by 20 percent of those surveyed, or to a greater extent the ignorancea reason claimed by 52 percent of citizens.

According to the study data, the 71 percent of respondents say they are not aware of having been the target of digital fraud in the last three months, either through SMS, email or calls. TransUnion has highlighted that this lack of perception increases among Generation (77%) and Baby Boomers (76%). However, the Generation Z is the most exposed to this type of threats, since 44 percent acknowledge having been attacked in this period.

Among the most used methods are ‘smishing’ (fraudulent text messages to obtain data), with 33 percent; ‘wishing’ (fraudulent phone calls), with 31 percent; and third party scams on legitimate e-commerce sites, with 19 percent.

The fraud patterns that have increased the most compared to the previous study, carried out in mid-2025, have been recorded in the account theft, identity theft, mule scams (transferring illegally obtained money on behalf of another person), and fraud related to unemployment benefits.

Faced with this series of threats and frauds, 46 percent of Spaniards surveyed claim that there were changed password in the last 60 days, and 16 percent say they had modified login options by others that do not require a password or by authentication applications.
