negative effect on consumer and gaming products”

“The hot topic of these months is the shortage of supply regarding RAM memories, due to the increase in demand from big tech companies that are investing more and more in the artificial intelligence market. This, as always happens when demand exceeds supply, is pushing the costs of components higher and higher and we see costs increasing from month to month. Therefore, the question everyone is asking is: what will happen to the Italian market with this increase in costs? The answer we are giving ourselves is that there will be a negative effect on the availability of product, especially in the ‘entry level’ segments of the market, both in terms of consumer products and gaming products”.

Thus Luca Bendazzoli, director of Acer’s consumer business Italy and Iberia, at the meeting with the press to celebrate Acer’s 50th anniversary in Milan, which was an opportunity to present the company’s vision for the near future.

“We have also seen, however, that the consumer has always decided which product to buy based on the budget he is willing to spend, therefore he does not change the budget based on the cost of the product. This means that there will be a huge opportunity for the Chromebook market, which will have much more space because there will be much less competition from Windows products in the lower part of the market – explains Bendazzoli – there will, however, be a scarcity of gaming products in the range around 1000 euros, because today the costs of the components do not allow us to be able to offer a product in that range of the market”.

“The technological improvement of connectivity means that the end user can rethink their way of approaching technology, in particular that of the personal computer – he underlines – Until now it has always been thought that increasing the configuration and components of one’s PC was the natural evolution, because the possibility of working with a less demanding PC in terms of performance, but which would allow you to save your data in the Cloud, was never taken into consideration. This possibility is offered, in particular, by Chromebooks on the market”.

“Acer was one of the first brands to believe in this new possibility of approaching laptops, in fact we are leaders in Italy regarding the Chromebook market, and referring to the scarcity of the memory components market, we think that this will be a market that will grow a lot in the future and as leaders we want to continue to maintain leadership and this will help us consolidate our position in the Italian market”, concludes Bendazzoli.
