AI more human than humans
The executive director of Google DeepMind, Demis Hassabis, predicted that we are “between 5 and 8 years away from achieving an artificial intelligence that can reason in a similar way to a human being”, to which he proposed a new evaluation standard called ‘Einstein Test’, which seeks to determine if a machine has a capacity for autonomous scientific innovation beyond the imitation of accumulated data.
Hassabis details that it should be observed whether the algorithm can invent General Relativity by itself, just as Albert Einstein did in 1915, since current tools are encyclopedic experts, but still lack a real creative dimension.
A low-cost Pixel
Google presented the new Pixel 10A, the most economical version of its line of smartphones, which will be available starting in March for $499, with a Tensor G4 processor and 8 GB of RAM, to run advanced AI functions.
“It offers the Pixel camera experience, Google AI functions and unbeatable longevity,” according to the company, which praised its “completely flat” design, a weight of 6.5 ounces (183 grams), a dual camera system composed of a 48 MP main sensor and a 13 MP ultra wide angle, and various AI options for image editing.
Gemini already creates music
Gemini, Google’s AI, can now generate “realistic” and “complex” 30-second music tracks from text or an image as a reference with its tool, Lyria 3, available in multiple languages and for use by YouTube Shorts creators.
For example, “a slow comedic R&B about a sock finding its match and, in a matter of seconds, Gemini will translate it into a catchy, high-quality track,” said Myriam Hamed Torres, product manager at Google DeepMind, who clarified that the tool is designed to encourage original expression and not to imitate existing artists.
However, musicians such as Billie Eilish, Pearl Jam and Katy Perry have asked that technology companies stop using artificial intelligence to “infringe and devalue the rights of human artists.”
Candidates supported by AI
In the legislative elections on March 8 in Colombia, some unprecedented candidates supported by AI will participate, promising to transfer to the bicameral Congress a model of ‘participatory digital democracy’, based on community consensus and traceability through blockchain technology, a project called Gaitana IA, in honor of an indigenous woman from the 16th century who led a rebellion against the Spanish conquest.
The human candidates formally registered and endorsed by the National Electoral Council (CNE) are engineer Carlos Redondo, candidate for the Senate for the special indigenous constituency, and Alba Rinco, anthropologist from the Emberá community, candidate for the House of Representatives. Their decisions in Congress will be determined by the votes carried out on the digital platform.
