Meta to cease Messenger website in April and redirect to Facebook for messaging

Meta has announced the closure of the independent website of its messaging service Messenger in April of this year, at which time it will no longer allow sending messages, so users will have to resort to the Facebook service on the web to continue sending messages from their computer.

Messenger, Facebook’s messaging service, can be used both with and without a Facebook account, since It is independent of the social networkand is currently available as an application for mobile phones (Android and iOS) and for computers (Windows and MacOS).

The company already announced in October of last year the disappearance of the Messenger desktop application, indicating that users could follow conversations on Facebook for desktop, where the same functions will be found, including calls.

Now, Meta continues in this line and has announced the website closure of Messenger, which will stop allowing the sending of messages in April, as shared on its help page.

Following the closure of the Messenger website, the company has explained that users will be automatically redirected to Facebook messaging service on the webso that users can continue contacting their contacts, with the same functions as in the Messenger service.

Likewise, conversations can also be continued directly on the Messenger app for smartphonesregardless of whether you have a Facebook account or not. Meta has also detailed that for restore history of conversations on any platform, users must use their specific PIN for backups in Messenger, that is, the same one that was entered the first time a backup was made in this service.
