Thirty years of Pokémon, new Wind and Wave titles announced for 2027

During the annual Pokémon Presents, The Pokémon Company group outlined the future of the franchise by officially announcing Pokémon Wind and Pokémon Wave. These new chapters of the main RPG series, developed by GAME FREAK inc., are scheduled for launch in 2027 and will mark the debut of the series on the new Nintendo Switch 2 console. The setting promises vast exploration, characterized by an archipelago of islands and dynamics linked to atmospheric agents, elements that give the two versions their name.

At the center of the new adventure there will be, as usual, three starter Pokémon from which players will be able to choose their partner: Browt (Grass type)a “Pollegume” Pokémon; Pombon (Fire-type)the “Dog” Pokémon; And Gecqua (Water-type)described as the “Hydrogecko” Pokémon. An important innovation on the global accessibility front concerns theinclusion of Brazilian Portuguese among the officially supported languages, confirming the brand’s desire to further expand its international user base.

Kenji Okubo, president of The Pokémon Company International, commented on the start of the celebrations by declaring that: “Pokémon has sparked the imaginations of millions of people around the world. This Pokémon Day is extra special, as it marks the start of Pokémon’s 30th anniversary celebrations with exciting announcements for all Trainers. I can’t wait to find out ‘Which is your favorite?’ as we set off together towards new adventures“.

In addition to the main titles, the event touched several sectors of the Pokémon ecosystem. To celebrate the origins of the series, the historical FireRed and LeafGreen versions have been made available on the Nintendo eShop and My Nintendo Store. They were also provided updates on PokémonXP, the 2026 World Championships and the annual “Which is your favorite?” campaign, which this year also features Pokémon GO on the occasion of its tenth anniversary. The catalog of new features includes insights into Pokémon Champions and the Trading Card Game, consolidating a transmedia strategy that aims to keep the franchise at the top of the global market for the next ten years.
