Research and test UAV for agricultural development in Dien Bien

Dien Bien Province and the Ministry of Science and Technology cooperate in researching and applying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to spray pesticides, fertilize and transport agricultural products.

This is part of the working trip of the delegation of the Ministry of Science and Technology in Dien Bien province, March 3-4.

At the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement for the period 2026-2030 between the People’s Committee of Dien Bien province and Vietnam Post Corporation – VNPost, the two sides plan to promote the development of postal infrastructure, digital transformation and many related fields in the area.

According to the agreement, the two sides will implement many activities in areas such as postal infrastructure development, digital transformation, e-commerce, social security payments, administrative reform and public service provision, including content on research and development of low-level spatial economy in the province.

VNPost plans to deploy in Dien Bien province advanced technology solutions and applications in accordance with legal regulations and actual conditions. These solutions aim to improve the efficiency of postal and logistics operations, while supporting the digital transformation process and local e-commerce development.

“During the implementation process, the two sides will regularly exchange information at each assigned level to update implementation results, and promptly report arising issues to coordinate handling, ensuring progress and effectiveness of cooperation content,” the announcement said. Specific contents are expected to be developed in each stage through cooperation programs, annual plans and tasks of each department, branch and locality.

Previously, on the afternoon of March 3, a working delegation of the Ministry of Science and Technology led by Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong also came to work in some communes in Dien Bien province. The delegation surveyed the coffee growing area, assessed the current state of cultivation, terrain conditions, area size, the need to apply high technology in production management, and visited households and individuals growing coffee and macadamia in the area.

Some contents were discussed by representatives of the Ministry with the people, such as the survey program to deploy controlled testing (sandbox) of a low-altitude economic development model applying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV); Analyze the economic-technical efficiency and feasibility of using unmanned aerial vehicles operating at low altitudes to spray pesticides, fertilize and transport agricultural products to people.

According to the Ministry representative, this method helps save costs, reduce the amount of pesticides and increase productivity, is suitable for the specific conditions of the commune, and helps people access and master high technology.

Muong Ang commune, a key coffee growing area of ​​Dien Bien province, has a valley terrain alternating with mountainous terrain, with a cool climate and suitable soil for growing long-term industrial crops, especially Arabica and macadamia coffee. Chairman of Muong Ang Commune People’s Committee Ha Thi Thanh Tam said she wishes to continue to receive support from the Ministry of Science and Technology so that commune people apply high technology in production, improve product quality, and increase income.
