BYD’s Denza Z9 GT sets a new world record for range

More than 1000 kilometers on a single charge

Although the figure of 1,036 kilometers is measured according to the Chinese CLTC (China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle) standard, which is known to be more optimistic than the European WLTP, the range is still monumental. According to more realistic estimates, adjusted to European or American conditions, the range would still be between 750 and 800 kilometers, which still places the Z9 GT at the very top of the range.

It is interesting that the regulatory files revealed that the sedan version, Denza Z9, can reach 1,068 kilometers with the same battery, but Denza decided to highlight the GT version as the record holder in the marketing campaign. Along with the largest battery, the offer will also include a smaller version of 102.3 kWh, which will offer a range of about 820 kilometers.

A beast of 1140 horsepower

The Denza Z9 GT is not only a range record holder, butć and a real supercar in terms of its performance. The most powerful version comes with all-wheel drive and as many as three electric motors, one in the front and two in the back, which together deliver a total power of 850 kW, i.e. 1,140 horsepower. This is a noticeable increase compared to the majority. impressive 710 kW from the previous generation. Unatoč with a vehicle mass of almost 2.9 tons, this power enables acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds, while the maximum speed is electronically limited to 270 km/h. For those who do not need such power, the offer will also include a basic model with rear-wheel drive and one 370 kW (496 hp) engine.

Luxury and technology as a direct attack on Porsche

With its dimensions, the Z9 GT enters directly into the territory of the European premium giants. It is 5,195 mm long, 1,990 mm wide, and the wheelbase of 3,125 mm guarantees exceptional spaciousness in the interior. It is almost identical in size to the Porsche Panamera, which BYD sees as one of its main competitors. The interior has been digitized to the limit, and the system with three screens dominates: a massive 17.3-inch central screen and two separate 13.2-inch screens for the driver and front passenger.

The exterior design brings a new “Fjord Green” color and new 21-inch wheels, but the most important innovation is the roof LiDAR sensor that is part of the advanced autonomous driving system “God’s Eye” 5.0. One of the interesting details is the small blue light on the exterior that lights up when the autonomous system is active, informing other road users that the car is controlled by a computer.

Price and arrival in Europe

Denza is a brand that was created as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, but the Chinese company has since taken over full ownership. Although the price for the new model has not yet been announced, the previous Z9 GT in China cost around 48,000 euros. BYD has big plans to expand the Denza to the European market, where they plan to compete directly with BMW, Porsche and Mercedes. With a record range and top performance, they certainly have strong arguments. For drivers who are not yet ready for a fully electric vehicle, Denza also offers a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version with a 63.8 kWh battery, which can travel more than 400 kilometers on electricity alone.
