Google continues working on the development of the operating system Aluminium OSwhich will combine Android with ChromeOS for desktop devices, and which will arrive at the end of 2026.

Last November, Google announced that the project had the name Aluminum OS, continuing with the name style ‘Chromium’, used to refer to the open source web browser on which Chrome is based.

This confirmation serves to reaffirm Google’s positionwhich already announced last September during the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit that Aluminum OS will be presented throughout 2026, given the information that suggested that this launch could be delayed to 2028 due to the “Google search antitrust case.”

RESURGENCE OF LAPTOPS AND FUTURE OF CHROME OS

Samat has also pointed to resurgence of laptops thanks to rise of artificial intelligence functionswhich promotes work in teams larger than smartphones and tablets.

To the rise of AI we must also add the Compatibility between smartphones and laptopsan aspect that Android users demanded. Faced with this, Google has tried to incorporate more compatibility functions in Chrome OS, but it will be Aliminium OS which allows users to work together with Android smartphones and laptops more effectively.

“Many Android users are excited about the possibility of their phone and laptop interacting and working better together,” Samat explained.

Although the first information about the launch of Aluminum OS pointed to the replacement of the Chrome OS operating system, Samat has clarified that Google has no intention of ceasing Chrome OS activity.

“Chrome OS has had excellent performance. Its management capacity is unsurpassed,” said Samat. “The development of Chrome OS will continue without changes,” he assured.

In line with Samat’s statements, Google’s strategy would include Keep Chrome OS on laptops in business and educationwhile Aluminium OS would focus on those users who prioritize connect consumer devices with Android applications, artificial intelligence functions and one greater integration of smartphones.
