NASA’s lunar program follow-up flight Artemis III is practicing docking in Earth orbit

United States plans to take astronauts to the moon in 2028. Before then, Nasa is planning one new flight for the Artemis moon program.

The Artemis III flight is scheduled to orbit the Earth in a low orbit. The purpose is for the astronauts to practice docking on a ship that will eventually land on the Moon.

The new flight brings continuity to Artemis flights. In the old plan, there were even year-long breaks between flights.

Artemis II was originally supposed to lift off for a trip around the Moon in early February. The general exercise revealed that there were defects in the supply of helium needed to pressurize the launch vehicle’s fuels.

The same trouble happened again when the flight was being prepared for departure, which was scheduled for the beginning of March.

Nasa announced on Tuesday, that the error has now been fixed. With these prospects, Artemis II will finally set sail in the early days of April.

Four astronauts fly Around the moon in the new spacecraft Orion, which is at the tip of the launch vehicle.

The flight takes ten days. Orion has flown in space twice before, without astronauts.
