ASI approves the data policy of the IRIDE mission

The access plan guarantees a priority support for institutional users, such as public administrations and national authorities involved in monitoring the territory. At the same time, data policy is structured to act as a catalyst for the private sector: transparency in distribution rules aims to encourage the creation of value-added services, allowing companies to develop innovative applications based on satellite information. This dual track aims to maximize the social and economic impact of the mission, consolidating Italy’s position in European space programs.

Financed through the resources of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the IRIDE mission is the result of a strategic agreement between the Italian Government, ASI and the European Space Agency (ESA). The information assets generated by the constellation will find application in areas critical to the country’s resilience: from the management of environmental emergencies to national security, up to urban planning and the support of public policies. The availability of accurate geospatial data will allow us to optimize interventions in contexts of hydrogeological risk and precisely monitor the health status of ecosystems.

The definition of the data policy ultimately represents a strategic move to enhance investments in the Space Economy. By creating an ecosystem conducive to data sharing and processing, Italy intends to promote technological growth capable of generating direct impacts on the geospatial services market. The IRIDE mission is therefore not limited to being a space engineering undertaking, but it is configured as a permanent digital infrastructure at the service of sustainability and national industrial innovation.
