NIC will gather 100 global Vietnamese technology talents

On March 14, the National Innovation Center (NIC) coordinated with the Vietnamese Consulate General in San Francisco to organize a discussion on connecting innovation networks, taking place in California. The discussion attracted 90 Vietnamese experts, scientists, businessmen and engineers working at universities, research institutes and large technology corporations in the US. Many people hold technical and senior management positions, such as Le Viet Quoc (Google), Le Minh Thong (Tesla), Nguyen Viet Hung (Berkeley University), Christopher Nguyen (AI Alliance), along with startup founders and investment fund representatives in Silicon Valley.

Here, the representative of the National Innovation Center said he is hatching a plan to gather 100 Vietnamese technology talents from around the world. The project may take place in October in Vietnam, including a series of events to connect, cooperate, and share experiences. “The project prioritizes experts from strategic technology industries,” said a NIC representative.

Vietnam currently prioritizes the development of six strategic technology products, including: large language models and Vietnamese virtual assistants, AI cameras for edge processing, autonomous mobile robots, 5G network equipment, blockchain infrastructure and drones. These products belong to a broader portfolio of 11 strategic technology groups with 35 products.

The goal is that by 2030, Vietnam will own 80% of the core technology of the 6 products mentioned above, with a localization rate of at least 60% of the selling price and meeting at least 30% of the domestic market.

Mr. Vo Xuan Hoai, Deputy Director of NIC, said that connecting Vietnamese experts, intellectuals and businessmen is especially important for the development of science, technology and innovation in Vietnam. Effectively mobilizing intellectual resources of the Vietnamese community abroad is a key factor to improve endogenous technological capacity and promote the development of strategic technology industries.

Meanwhile, Mr. Le Duc Trung, Deputy Consul General of Vietnam in San Francisco, said that this agency will accompany and support activities connecting science, technology, innovation and high-tech investment between Vietnam and the US, especially in emerging technology fields.

According to Dr. Le Viet Quoc, an expert at Google, AI is opening up opportunities for Vietnam to solve many important development problems and make progress in strategic technology industries. He will connect about 100 leading Vietnamese technology experts in the world to contribute to Vietnam’s innovation ecosystem.

At the seminar, Vietnamese experts in the US also shared experiences and proposed many cooperation models in the fields of AI, semiconductor chips, cloud computing, big data, quantum technology, blockchain, 5G/6G networks, robotics and automation, biomedical technology, energy, new materials, cybersecurity, aerospace technology and drones.

Opinions focused on strengthening the connection of the Vietnam-US innovation ecosystem, promoting the commercialization of research results, developing high-tech human resources and forming cooperative projects between businesses, universities and research organizations of the two countries.

The Network of Vietnamese Innovation and Experts was established by NIC in 2018, to connect Vietnamese intellectuals globally. The network is currently present in more than 22 countries and territories with more than 2,500 members who are experts, scientists and engineers in many important industries.

In fact, in 2018, Vietnam organized a program to bring together 100 young Vietnamese working in the field of global science and technology. The participants all have outstanding achievements, working in fields such as information technology, biotechnology, manufacturing industry, automation applications or robotics. Many of these experts later returned to Vietnam, actively contributing to the development of domestic technology enterprises.
