This is the finest vacuum cleaner and electric mop

In recent years, the home market seems to have entered a new phase: that of intelligent miniaturization. We see more and more devices that reduce their size, responding to a very specific reality: modern homes – especially in large cities – are smaller and require compact solutions. But there is something more interesting behind this trend: engineering is reaching a point where Making products smaller does not mean making them less powerful.

With that idea on the table, Dyson has just presented a new generation of ultra-fine cleaning devices. And among them there are two that we have been able to test: the Dyson PencilVac vacuum cleaner and the Dyson PencilWash electric mop. Both share a very clear philosophy: reduce the size to a minimum – only 38 mm in diameter on the handle – while maintaining the brand’s characteristic technology as much as possible.

The result is devices designed for agile, manageable cleaning adapted to contemporary homesalthough the novelty of the format still raises some doubts. We have put them to the test and we tell you our first impressions.

A VACUUM CLEANER WEIGHTING LESS THAN 2 KG

The first thing that surprises about the Dyson PencilVac It is its format. With barely 38 mm in diameter and 1.8 kg in weight, It becomes Dyson’s thinnest and most manageable vacuum cleaner to date. In everyday use this translates into a feeling of lightness that is unusual in this type of device: it is easy to handle (the head maneuvers very comfortably), allows you to clean horizontally and even slides backwards effortlessly, comfortably reaching areas that are normally out of reach. It’s fun to use and that’s a plus.

If we go beyond the size, one of the key elements is in the cleaning head. Dyson has developed the Fluffycones system, made up of four conical rollers distributed in two parallel bars that rotate in opposite directions. This configuration causes the head to move smoothly over the ground and It allows you to clean both forwards and backwards with the same efficiency.

For their part, the conical rollers are designed to expel hair towards the ends of the head, where it is finally sucked, preventing it from getting tangled around the brush, one of the most common drawbacks of domestic vacuum cleaners. It also includes the front and rear lighting with laser effect of its most iconic models, which allow you to see the finest powder easily.

Inside, the Dyson Hyperdymium 140 rpm motor works, the smallest and fastest developed by the brand so far. With just 28 mm in diameter – approximately the size of a coin – it is capable of rotating at 140,000 revolutions per minute, generating powerful suction despite the compact size of the device. Does it stick? Which is not intended for carpets And even the smallest houses have some and users demand that extra power.

We do not know if Dyson is looking for a more economical option for its classic vacuum cleaners or a complement to them with this device. We would like the first option to be viable because The rest of the elements have been well integrated into this format. ‘mini’: a fully functional LCD screen, a tank that – despite being smaller – has a good dust compression system, and a battery that – despite being significantly smaller – can be used in small houses.

A MOP THAT IMPROVES PREVIOUS MODELS

The same design philosophy is carried over to the new Dyson PencilWash, an electric mop that is committed to an ultralight and compact format. This is a category that we do not view favorably, but that Dyson improves in the aspects that we consider important: more comfortable use and avoid bad odors.

We have argued on other occasions that electric mops did not improve traditional mops enough to warrant such a large investment (in this case, 349 euros). We continue to think in a similar way, but Dyson PencilWash takes a leap forward at a technological level without forgetting what should be a priority in this type of product.

One of the differences compared to other electric mops is that it does not use a filter to retain dirt. This design prevents the accumulation of waste, bacteria or bad odors inside of the device and reduces necessary maintenance. The machine also incorporates two hydration modes, which allow you to adjust the amount of water depending on the type of soil or the intensity of dirt. With a 300 ml clean water tank, you can cover up to 100 square meters.

We especially like the charging base, which seems to integrate as another decorative element of the house. To charge it we have to remove the head (which is the ugliest part and that we can hide a little) and the handle with the battery is visible, which integrates in a very elegant way into the environment.

A SMART BET TO EXPAND THE CATALOG

After testing both devices, it’s clear that Dyson is exploring a very specific direction: make cleaning lighter, more manageable and faster, without losing the technological focus that characterizes the brand.

This ultra-thin format may not be the perfect solution for all homes – especially for very large homes or intensive cleaning – but it does seem to fit very well in urban apartments or for users looking for practical tools for daily maintenance. The only point to improve, as we mentioned before, is that extra power for carpets and deeper dirt.

There is also another factor that can be decisive: the price. With 499.99 euros for the PencilVac and 349 euros for the PencilWash, these models They are located in a more competitive range within the Dyson catalog. That could make them a gateway to the brand for many users. An interesting strategy that we will follow closely to see how it evolves.
