Philips celebrates 100 years of innovation in Spain to improve people’s lives

Philips will celebrate this Wednesday one hundred years of presence in Spaina milestone that supports its vision of innovating with the purpose of improving people’s lives and which currently focuses on health technology and personal care.

The president of Philips Ibérica, Juan Sanabria, and the general director of Philips Ibérica, Miguel de Foronda, have reviewed the evolution of the companyits mission and its plans for the near future in a meeting with the press held this Tuesday, the eve of the centenary.

The company currently focuses on health technology for hospitals and for personal care at homebut it also develops consumer technology such as televisions and sound equipment, although its beginnings in this country allowed it to illuminate its streets.

All of this under a purpose that has not changed in a hundred years: “improve the lives and well-being of people through innovation”, as Sanabria has pointed out, who has stressed that throughout this time, they have “used the technology and innovation that was available at all times to have more impact and to be able to better respond to the needs of society”.

Currently, Philips’ presence in Spain continues to be important, with offices in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Bilbao, Valencia, Santiago de Compostela and the Canary Islands, where they work close to their clients.

Globally, the company invests more than 1.7 billion euros a year in research and developmentwhich is equivalent to 9 percent of annual sales. This makes it “the health technology company that invests the most in R&D&I in the entire sector, both in absolute terms and as a percentage of sales,” highlighted the president of Philips Ibérica.

“If there is something that characterizes Philips, it is its constant commitment to innovation, understood not only as technological development, but as a form of anticipate needs and respond to major health challenges“added the general director.

In this sense, De Foronda has stressed that innovation in this area is “increasingly connected, based on data and aimed at improving the experience of both professionals and patients”, which results in “solutions that are present throughout the entire care process.”

Likewise, he highlighted the “strong implementation” they have in the Spanish health system, where Philips technology is present. in nine out of ten large hospitals, both public and private, with diagnostic imaging, digital health and connected patient solutions.

The manager also mentioned sustainability, which is increasingly present in the way they innovate and develop at Philips. According to what he said, 86.9 percent of his sales in Spain already come from solutions that have been developed under ecodesign criteria, and 25.5 percent are already linked to solutions, services and business models with a circularity approach.

With this in mind, the company’s portfolio reflects the progress “towards a more efficient technology in the use of resources and better aligned with the current needs of the health system and the environment“De Foronda added.

The company accompanies the celebration with a commemorative book which includes the history of Philips in Spain. Apart from dates and business milestones, it is presented as a tribute “to those who laid the foundations of this company, promoted its growth and to those who today continue that legacy with the same spirit of innovation and commitment”, concluded the president of Philips Ibérica.
