Apple will introduce a series of ‘AI advances’ on June 8

Apple has just announced the schedule for the WWDC 2026 Global Developers Conference on June 8-12. The event will take place online throughout the week with more than 100 video sessions and online breakout rooms as well as in-person meetups for increased interactivity.

On the first day, the company will have an opening speech at Apple Park headquarters, introducing a series of awaited new operating systems including iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, tvOS 27, watchOS 127 and visionOS 27. Compared to every year, this year the company emphasizes “AI advances” in addition to software and tools for developers.

Apple’s revelation shows that it is likely that Siri virtual assistant will have the biggest “overhaul” since its launch with deep AI integration. The company announced a partnership with Google earlier this year, suggesting the possibility that Gemini will be a key part of rebuilding Siri smarter. This is considered the right approach because Gemini is the most rapidly developing AI model while Google is also a familiar partner and has brought much success to Apple in the past.

AI upgrade announcements are of particular interest to the technology world because Apple “missed its appointment” to upgrade Siri last year. The virtual assistant on iOS 27 is expected to understand personal context, search deeply within the application, recognize screen content and be able to perform multiple tasks between applications.

Apple is also said to be developing a chatbot version of Siri to compete with ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude. However, it is unclear in what direction the chatbot will be developed or an upgraded version with Gemini’s internal core. The company may announce the beta at WWDC 2026 before officially releasing it later this year.

The new iOS version is also of interest in the context that Apple may release a folding iPhone in September. If true, the operating system for the iPhone will have important upgrades to support large screens as well as the flexibility of a device with two screens. It is unclear whether Apple will upgrade iOS 27 or use a shortened version of iPadOS for the iPhone Fold, which is said to have a 7.8-inch open screen, equivalent to the iPad mini.
