A new feature connects Gemini to Google Translate – and can translate conversations

The new feature, called Live Translate, allows users to hear a live translation of a conversation in a foreign language directly through the headphones. After opening the application, selecting the languages ​​and connecting the headphones, you can activate the translation mode and listen to the real-time translation of the speaker in front of you. The technology also works when watching content such as movies or series in a foreign language, and makes it possible to understand the dialogues while watching.

Google explains that the main innovation is not only in the translation of the words, but in Gemini’s ability to preserve the intonation, rhythm and accents of the speakers. This way, according to the company, a more natural translation experience is obtained that allows you to follow the conversation closer to the original language.

The system supports more than 70 languages, including English, Arabic, French, German, Spanish, Hindi and Chinese. The feature can also be used without headphones, but the central experience is designed for direct listening, which reduces the need to look at the screen and enables more fluid communication.

Until now, the service was mainly available to Android users in a limited number of countries, but now Google is expanding the launch to iPhone devices and other countries in Europe, Asia and Africa. Among the countries where the feature is already active are Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Great Britain and Japan.

Despite the great promise, the use of the feature still depends on technological conditions such as the quality of the Internet connection, background noise and differences between speakers. The accuracy of the translation may also vary depending on the language, the accent and the complexity of the conversation.
