Minecraft gets its first theme park: They invest 50 million pounds!

Behind this ambitious venture are two giants in their respective industries: Mojang Studios, a Swedish game developer owned by Microsoft, and Merlin Entertainments, a British company that is the world’s second largest theme park operator, after Disney. The initial investment just for the first location in the park Chessington World of Adventures near London is about 50 million pounds (about 67 million dollars). But the plans are much bigger – the total global contract for the first two planned locations, in Great Britain and the United States, is estimated at more than 110 million dollars. The details were officially unveiled during the Minecraft Live online event in March 2026, where fans got their first look at the concept designs and vision of the future park.

The goal of the project is to create a faithful replica of the world that gamers know from the screen, with an emphasis on interaction and adventure. The park will not be just a series of rides, but a complete experience that brings to life the key elements of the game.

The world’s first Minecraft ‘roller coaster’

The main star of the park and the most exciting attraction will be the world’s first death train completely inspired by Minecraft. According to the announcements, the ride will not only be a series of turns and falls, but a narrative journey that takes visitors through faithful replicas of recognizable biomes and dangerous dimensions from the game. Travelers are expected to experience the atmosphere of dark caves, green plains and, for the bravest, fiery and dangerous Nether, with special effects that will enhance the game world.

The entire park will be designed as a “living” Minecraft world, with the characteristic blocky aesthetic that made the game famous. Visitors will not only be passive observers; interactive adventures await them, searches for resources and encounters with familiar creatures, so-called “mobs”, such as the infamous Creepers, zombies and peaceful villagers. Although the details are not yet known, it is expected that visitors will be able to participate in mini-games that simulate mining and construction. Special attention is also paid to the gastronomic offer, so themed restaurants will serve food inspired by the game, such as “lion chicken”, and the world’s largest Minecraft store with exclusive products will also be located within the park. One of the most innovative elements will be digital integration. By interacting with physical elements in the park, visitors will be able to scan codes or activate sensors that will unlock exclusive digital content, such as skins or items, within the video game itself on their accounts.

Global ambitions and franchise expansion

The UK location is just the first step in global expansion. Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios haveć have confirmed plans to open a similar facility in the United States, although the exact location has not yet been officially announced. This move represents a logical step in the evolution of Minecraft as a global brand, bridging the gap between the virtual world and the physical experience. The announcement comes at a time when the franchise is experiencing significant expansion into other media, including the long-awaited feature film “A Minecraft Movie”. In order to ensure maximum authenticity and fidelity to the original material, Mojang confirmed that in the development of the park they are closely cooperating with well-known content creators from the Minecraft community, which should guarantee that the final product will satisfy even the most demanding fans.
