Sensofusion bought Finland’s only aircraft factory and is hiring more people

Finnish defense technology company Sensofusion has acquired Finland’s only aircraft manufacturer During Aviationin.

With the purchase, Sensofusion expands its resources and brings to the market air-to-ground surveillance equipment, the aircraft of which are manufactured at the company’s Hall factory in Jämsä. The purchase price is not disclosed.

The acquisition brings to Sensofusion aircraft and drone manufacturing know-how and production capacity, which expands the company’s ability to conduct sensor reconnaissance from the air to the ground.

“Air-to-ground operations have been familiar to Sensofusion for years. Many of our Airfence customers have already placed our products in helicopters, airplanes and drones. Signal dominance cannot only happen from the ground, and on the other hand, radio transmitters on the ground are better detected from the air”, founder and CEO of Sensofusion Tuomas Rasila says in the announcement.

In central Finland

Atol Aviation operates in the former Finnish Air Force base in Halli, where the company has developed the Atol Aurora seaplane and the Atol Protector seaplane for official and defense use.

Aerial detection of drones and their ground stations covers a significantly wider area than systems operated from the ground.

When terrain shapes, forests and buildings do not block the flow of signals, the sensor system placed in the aircraft multiplies the size of the monitored area. This is a key performance leap, especially when monitoring large areas and in rapidly changing operational environments.

Sensofusion’s plans are to start manufacturing new products at the Hall factory, expand the company’s operations and hire more employees there.

The company will announce more about the new products on June 3.

“This is a great step forward for Atol Aviation. With Sensofusion, we have a genuine synergy of know-how and doing. Both companies design and manufacture demanding products in Finland with Finnish engineering know-how”, founder and CEO of Atol Aviation Anssi Rekula tells.
