The innervation of the clitoris was revealed to be wider than expected

A more detailed nerve map of the clitoris can facilitate, for example, repair surgery after genital mutilation.

An even more accurate 3D map of the innervation of the clitoris was published in the study. The yellow picture shows the most important sensory nerve of the clitoris, i.e. the dorsal nerve.

There where the complex network of nerves inside the penis was already mapped decades ago, a similar mapping has only now been done for the clitoris.

According to researchers, a surprisingly rough map of one of the most sensitive nerve networks in the human body has been used. It has never been possible to see it so precisely and three-dimensionally before, states the study manuscript version in bioRxiv.
