Musk promised an xAI video game by the end of 2026, and now he is also without the last co-founder of that company

Elon Musk, known for his ambitious projects, once again stirred up the technology scene, drastically accelerating his plans. His company xAI is now planning to launch a “cool video game” entirely generated by artificial intelligence andć until the end of this year. But as Musk races toward this goal, his vision faces major challenges, and the latest blow is the news that he has lost the last of the 11 co-founders of his original AI company, adding to industry skepticism.

Musk’s vision goes beyond simply using artificial intelligence to generate text or images. Keyč of the project lies in so-called “world models”, advanced AI systems designed to understand and simulate physics, object interactions and environmental dynamics. Unlike language models like ChatGPT, these models aim to create realistic and dynamic three-dimensional worlds that react to player moves in real time. This, in theory, could allow for infinite variety and stories that adapt to each player individually.

Top team under pressure

Faced with the departure of all 11 co-founders of xAI, Musk is now reportedly aggressively hiring new talent to achieve his goal of “making great games again.” Former Nvidia experts Zeeshan Patel and Ethan He were brought into the team, bringing key experience in simulations and world modeling. Paradoxically, while on the one hand the founding team is losing, on the other hand the company is looking for “video game tutors” with a salary of up to 100 US dollars per hour, whose task is to “do” the AI that makes a game fun and attractive. The entire project will be powered by the Colossus supercomputer, providing the enormous computing power needed to generate complex virtual worlds.

Industry on the scales: Innovation or danger?

While Musk promises a revolution, reactions from the industry are divided. Veterans like Glenn Schofield, creator of the game Dead Space, dismissed Musk’s new, accelerated timeline as completely unrealistic. News of the breakup of the original co-founding team of OpenAI, the company Musk helped found, only raises doubts. Many fear that the mass application of AI, especially in such a rush, could lead to a wave of low-quality, generic content, similar to what happened in the NFT era. In addition, serious ethical issues arise, such as training AI models on existing games without the author’s permission, but also the fear of losing jobs for artists, designers and programmers who have been perfecting their craft for years.
