After nearly a year of establishment, the Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL) division led by billionaire Alexandr Wang has launched the large language model Muse Spark.
“More than 9 months ago, we rebuilt our entire AI system from scratch,” Wang wrote on X on April 8. “New infrastructure, new architecture, new data pipeline. Muse Spark is the result of that work.”
On the blog, Meta said Muse Spark is the first AI model of the Muse line developed by MSL. The company didn’t mention the previous Llama model, but Business Insider believes that this LLM may no longer be centralized, or has even been “discontinued”. Muse Spark is now integrated into Meta AI websites and applications.
According to the company, Muse Spark includes a “contemplation mode” that helps coordinate multiple AI agents at once for various purposes. Among them, the new LLM offers the ability to improve health feedback through collaboration with 1,000 doctors, as well as upgrade shopping features by turning creator and brand content on Meta platforms into purchase recommendations.

Also according to Meta, Muse Spark has received a “comprehensive safety review” from the company, which will “strongly deny” questions about high-risk topics like chemical weapons. The model was also independently evaluated by Apollo Research – a research unit focused on reducing the risk of harm in advanced AI – with the result achieving “the highest cognitive rating of any model observed”.
Wang said his team is developing more products besides Muse Spark, some of which are open source. “This is the first step,” he wrote on X.
On Threads, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the new model is the “first milestone” toward providing personal superintelligence for everyone. “We’re building products that not only answer your questions, but also act as assistants that do everything for you,” he wrote. “I’m optimistic that this will support a wave of creativity, entrepreneurship, growth and health.”
In June 2025, Zuckerberg announced the establishment of the super intelligence department Meta Superintelligence Labs after purchasing $14.3 billion worth of shares in Scale AI and attracting Wang, once the world’s youngest self-made billionaire, to lead. With MSL, Zuckerberg aims to develop “personal superintelligence” – the term he uses to describe AI systems that can surpass human abilities.
After its founding, MLS quickly became one of Meta’s most important and expensive recipients of investments. For nearly a year, the company spent hundreds of millions of dollars to recruit engineers and researchers from OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Apple and AI startups. However, some employees said that the introduction of MLS also caused internal conflicts, with overlapping and constantly changing tasks, causing many people to feel stressed and leave work early.
