Gunshots against the house of the CEO of OpenAI: new attack on Sam Altman

The quiet of the residential neighborhood of Russian Hill, in San Francisco, was shaken by a second act of violence against the property of Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. On Sunday morning, around 2.56am local time, the police intervened following reports of shots coming from a vehicle passing in front of the manager’s home. Thanks to the video surveillance system, which immortalized the license plate of the fleeing car, the officers traced back to two suspects aged 23 and 25, who were tracked down shortly after and found in possession of three firearms.

The episode follows by just two days a first attempted attack which took place last Friday, when a young man of twenty was taken into custody for having thrown a Molotov cocktail at the same residence. Although the authorities are still working to clarify the dynamics and possible motives behind this escalation, the San Francisco police chief, Derrick Lew, underlined the seriousness of the acts, assuring that any crime committed with the use of weapons will be prosecuted with the maximum rigor foreseen by the law. Investigations into both cases currently remain open to determine whether there is a direct correlation between the two incidents that targeted one of Silicon Valley’s most influential faces.
